Day One At Voodoo

The VOODOO Spell has taken over New Orleans and promises to leave a Halloween weekend to remember! The 11th annual Voodoo Experience opened Friday in city park with strong winds thought-out the day. Praying to rain gods to let the rain hold off did not work! By 5 pm the monsoon started and the temp. dropped 20 degrees and the mud puddles began!! On the Voodoo stage at 3pm the "The Vettes" a New Orleans based band started. Their a band of brothers and a sister fronted band commanded the stage and took over the crowd! Their 80's pop sound was a great break from the indie rock and blues bands playing on the five other stages. The black Keys played the stage at 5:40pm. These guys are crazy they got soaked from the whipping wind on stage and keep going at it!! If you ever thought a guitarist /vocalist and a drummer can't blow away a 5 piece rock band you were wrong!!! Two guys one stage...HOLY SHIT!! Must buy a cd! After their set JUSTICE (DJ) took the stage the ravers and glow sticks came out!! The crowd turned into a dance club filled with rain and mudd. WEEN very hard to explain but watching them put in in the hippy feeling Woodstock's vibe. The final bang of the night was Eminem w/ D12... Not my favorite but the largest gathering at one stage that day. Realistic sounding gun shots filled the air and hit songs and videos to match played to the rain soaked muddy crowd. Day one of VOODOO is over at 11:30pm everyone is cold, wet and muddy and now has to walk a mile+ to get to their cars or line in line for the buses or taxis. I like a dummass went to Bourbon Street till 3:45am and now with 5 hours sleep....I have to do it all over again!!!!! Life is Hard!!

Day Two At Voodoo

Kicked to day off with Dan Dyer. He is a soulful singer from Austin,Tx. The crowd was trapped in his grasp. He sounded great with his piano playing then playing 2 minute long solos on guitar. It was a good start to a hot sunny day.The NOLA crowd was filled with crazy Halloween attire and some wearing hardly anything.I made my way though the muddy fields to a little tent next to the New Orleans Bingo Tent. This tent was filled with everything you can image that would come out of New Orleans from street performers to sideshow circus outfits and marching parades of insane madness!! This is where I met my friends DOWN. Right before they went on I did a interview with 2 members...You have to wait to see WHO!?!! DOWN's show as always was GREAT..Phil's voice was the best I heard in years..He had full control over the 2,000+ people packed the tent with a larger crowd in the mud around the opened wall tent. Pepper and Kirk shredded back and forth guitar licks..Jimmy Bower beat the shit out of the drums with some *Bower Power*. If you haven't heard of DOWN you probably don't know go buy NOLA CD and LEARN WHAT NEW ORLEANS SLUDGE IS ABOUT!! At 7:30 with the oringal line-up Jane's Addiction hit the stage with force....Been caught stealing was a epic event for me from only seeing them from MTV and the crazy video we all know!! Stephen Perkins drumming was trace like rhythm!! Dave Navarro guitar playing was incredible as I expected. NOW the short wait for KISS I made the crazy move to run back to the press area and get another free drink..and guess who drives up...The one and only Doc McGee and KISS!!!! They run in the photo booth with their selected 10 photographs KISS guarded by three security guards two with Gene!! I got some footage of them leaving in their caravan of police escorts to the stage. Fireworks lights and the the largest video sceens I ever scene! KISS's show was larger than life production that took hold of the crowd young and old and took then to the ROCK SHOW we all waited for!! Fireworks and blast engulfs the New Orleans city sky!!! The local news had helicopters in the sky to film the KISS madness!!!!
