The Iron Maidens
- The World's Only Female Tribute to Iron Maiden -
April 14, 2012
The Gaslamp - Long Beach, California
Review by: MO
The opening act, a band called 'The Thugs' (the owner of the venue is the guitar player) did a rockin' set of cover tunes by AC/DC, Aerosmith, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin to name a few. 'The Thugs' definitely got the crowd warmed up for the Maidens.
This was my first time seeing The Iron Maidens with the current lineup. I was completely blown away by the pristine musicianship of these 5 girls. The attention to detail given to the performance of each and every one of these well-known songs is evident. The Iron Maidens put on a tremendous, highly charged show to a very enthusiastic crowd.
The Gaslamp - Long Beach was the Maidens' first appearance back in the states having just returned from an overseas tour. We had an opportunity to chat with the girls and their manager before the show and heard some interesting stories about their travels and adventures in Indonesia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Bali and a few other spots along the way.
The monitors flanking the stage showed still images of the Iron Maidens, intermingled with live footage from a backstage camera revealing the girls preparing to rock the room, ending with a taped greeting and well wishes from none other than Nicko McBrain himself introducing The Iron Maidens to a welcoming crowd.
From start to finish, the audience sang along to virtually every song. The Maidens' energy is impressive and their interaction with the crowd is a treat to watch. Make no mistake...this is not just 5 musicians covering Iron Maiden songs. These girls are the real deal. An Iron Maidens show is an experience; a tribute to, in the view of many, the greatest metal band on earth, Iron Maiden. Every note is played to perfection. And oh yes, the Eddies were there in all their glory.
Courtney "Adriana Smith" was a tad under-the-weather at this show - putting it mildly - you would never know she had a severe case of the flu. Major props to Courtney for hanging in there and putting on a great show! After wishing her well at the meet-n-greet, she commented that "the show must go on"...Courtney was looking forward to a day off, but The Maidens will soon be back in full swing for rehearsals and 2 upcoming shows at the end of this week.
