MURASHITA Inescapable Damnation EP Album Review

If you love metal and are struggling to find something out of the ordinary, look no further than "Inescapable Damnation", the debut EP by Murashita. Combining elements of melodic, thrash and speed metal with a completely unique vocal style, Masaki Murashita has recorded an intense group of songs that stand out from anything else in the industry. The sound and tone Murashita gets from his ESP E-II Arrow using Engl amps is incredible. His reputation attracted the attention of the contributing artists to bring his vision to reality.

The opening track, Retribution makes an immediate impression. With Kelly Conlon (Death, Monstrosity) on bass and Kevin Talley (Suffocation, Six Feet Under, Chimaira) on drums (for all tracks), this song brings to life the feelings Murashita felt during a tough time in his life. Receiving positive responses when it was released in January 2015, it continues to attract attention in the U.S., Japan, and now Europe. The time signature changes in the chorus are a perfect example of the writing skill he is gifted with.

Continuing the metal onslaught, the title track is one you can dedicate to the doubters in your life. David Ellefson (Megadeth, Metal Allegiance) lends his talents on the bass and Murashita shows he can hold his own with the most seasoned of rock veterans. While Death and Glory's lyrics could be the motto for this rising star. "Fight for the future. Live for yourself." may have been written about a past experience but they could easily have been a premonition for where the guitarist might find himself today.

Rodney McGlothlin (Voice of Dissent) is the guest bassist for the last three songs, and as with the other guest musicians, brings his own exceptional skills without overshadowing Murashita's style. Conquer the Foe, with its contagious chorus, had me humming it without even realizing it after just one listen. The aptly named This Show Must Go On ends the EP on a motivational, empowering note which exemplifies the inner strength this artist has, and his ability to transfer that into hard core music. Even more so, it makes a statement not just about this release, but of the great things we can expect from him in the future.

With outstanding guitar work, great lyrics and a complete lack of conformity to industry expectations, "Inescapable Damnation" is a metal manifestation. On the back of a brief tour in Japan in September, Murashita's self produced EP, mixed by Ryan Greene, is due to be released October 16, 2015. The album artwork, by Remy, gives us a mind's eye view of the vision Murashita had for this release. Plans for a U.S. tour early next year are underway, with the possibility of a European tour as well.
