Like A Storm Interview With Matt Brooks

Interview By Maggie Wright @metalmaggieuk @FullMetalRock

January 30, 2016 from the Rescue Rooms, Nottingham, UK

Mark this date on the calendar, as the date that Nottingham was awakened to the fire of didgeridoo metal! Currently touring with Escape the Fate on the “Hate Me” Tour, Like A Storm opened the night to a sold out crowd who I would bet money on, had never seen a didgeridoo or even fathomed that it could be part of a rock band. Well, there have been rock bands with flute players, so why not this! But don’t be fooled into thinking this is some kind of gimmick. These New Zealanders take their music seriously. And their already widely established fans across North America will hold you to task if you try to imply such a thing!

Whatever genetics the parents of these guys have, it should be bottled and sold! With looks to rival any Hollywood A- listers, the Brooks brothers have talent seeping out their pores. And yet they are the kindest and humblest band you could meet. They love what they do, they love their fans, and are enjoying every moment of this ride that started just over a year ago, when they travelled to Los Angeles, California to record their debut album, “Awaken The Fire”.

Opening with Chaos, the crowd instantly warmed to this band. Like A Storm showed no signs of wear after the ShipRocked 2016 cruise, nor of jet lag from the journey to the UK afterwards. Always the professionals, the band want to give the crowd their money’s worth, no matter the currency. Seeing the didgeridoo played on stage had a hypnotizing affect on the room. It is definitely something that has to be seen live to appreciate.

Introducing the packed room to the songs that have launched Like A Storm must have been thrilling. To see a whole new audience fall in love with their songs, particularly Wish You Hell and Love the Way You Hate Me, must have been thrilling, and rejuvenating at the same time. By the time their set was over, and the posed for the selfie with the crowd, LAS had their first Nottingham LAS-trooper recruits signed up.
