Spring of 2017 has come to Columbus, OH and brought us the metalcore icons Killswitch Engage and thrash legends Anthrax together with a co-headlining tour which had been titled ‘The Killthrax Tour’. The two bands will alternate closing the show throughout the tour and being supported by The Devil Wears Prada and for a limited time, Jasta.

First band of the night was Jasta on a short tour from March 29th through April 9th w/ Anthrax, Killswitch Engage & Devil Wears Prada, promoting their newest CD “Jasta the lost chapters” due out March 31st. The crowd was into it as the first note rang out this evening. A circle pit of metal heads began banging their heads and pumping their fists giving the venue a frenzied beginning to the night ahead. Starting with old songs and working up to the new album, Jasta and the boys kept the crowd in their pocket the whole time.

Hitting the stage fast and loud the next band from right here locally in Dayton Ohio, The Devil Wears Prada, attacked seemingly without warning. The band was met with much voracity as the crowd continued the pace set forth from the previous set. Lead singer, Mike Hranica¸ is like a caged animal on stage as he sings and surveys the crowd seeming to look for any weakness, like a predator in the wild. Unlike in the wild he attacks his prey with his voice and with the talent of his pride of musicians. This band is hardcore all the way, the crowd feasted on everything Prada was feeding, filling their hunger with every note and every word. As fast as they hit the stage they were gone. As the predator hunts from the shadows and attacks without warning they were gone leaving everyone drenched in sweat and with a full belly of metal. As they say time flies when you are banging your head.... or something like that the fans wanted more.

Killswitch took control of the crowd right away as the first song, “Hate by Design” played coupled with the skills of their dynamic vocalist Jesse Leach, with his voice and the intense gaze in his eyes. They pulled everyone from the crowd in close in anticipation and then blew them back ripping their faces off with metal. Guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz was a total animal, there is no question that he lives for this shit and this showed with his fret board skill and on stage enthusiasm which wowed the crowd. The heavy pounding sounds were pounded out by the bass lines of bassist Mike D'Antonio and thundering drums of percussionist Justin Foley. The crowd’s intensity grew with the music and the dramatic lighting enhanced the mood and response to KSE. Leach left the stage and walked around the barrier out into the crowd all the way to the back as fans freaked out and were like “hey that's Jesse Leach….” as he walked by. Also his onstage presents did not reveal his recent bought with food poisoning, until he shared his cure with us all, lots and lots of tequila. They killed their version and tribute to The Eternal Ronnie James Dio. The last song was harder than the first... They didn't fall off at all, if anything they got more intense.

Tonight the closing act was one of the big four of thrash metal, a legendary band from the early 80’s who still brings it fast and heavy, Anthrax. They came to the stage tonight after the playing of the blues brothers intro behind a flashing spot light show that pumped the fans up even more. Their set includes such greats from their storied past with “Caught in the Mosh”, “I am the law”, “Antisocial” and “Indians”. Scott Ian is an icon in the music world with his trademark goatee, white flying V guitar and thrashing speed guitar style that has brought him among the top of metal guitarists. Front man Joey Belladonna works the stage and the crowd like a ringmaster at the circus, engaging and leading with his voice and his lyrics that stay with you song after song. The long time rhythm section of the band in bassist Frank Bello and Drummer Charlie Benante, have been the backbone to the heavy, fast and hard sound that has defined the band of the last 30 plus years. Bellos works the stage like a seasoned veteran, but has the attitude and veracity of a young musician trying to show what he’s made of night after night. Lead guitarist Jonathan Donais was on fire and is so intense on stage that he is almost in a trance, swinging his hair, banging his head and not missing a note. This band is one of the great metal bands and never disappoint when on stage in their element and bringing the metal to all Anthrax fans in attendance. All of these bands are great live and if you get the chance to catch them at a concert venue near you, do not hesitate to get tickets, take friends and bang your heads together.
