Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal

Book Review by: ~ Mo

In the forward of Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, Rob Halford states that Eddie is a "living breathing backstage pass"...reading this and the words that follow from metal's iconic front man is worth the price of the book itself.

In Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, you will find not only a listing of his favorite tunes ("Eddie's Playlist"), but killer backstage and background stories, anecdotes and comments about Eddie's top 35 hard rock & heavy metal bands, including one of Eddie's personal favorites KISS - his first concert ever at Madison Square Garden, at the age of 13!

Bands to be expected in a book about hard rock and heavy metal include Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, DIO, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Megadeth, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Rainbow, Scorpions...many more. I was personally happy to see the inclusion of Billy Squier (Eddie's first introduction to Billy was in a band called Piper). Billy Squier gave us memorable tunes like "The Stroke", "My Kinda Lover" and "In The Dark"! Happy to note that due to his business savvy, Billy now owns all rights and ownership to his entire catalog of music, which is almost unheard of.

I have had the privilege of meeting Eddie Trunk a couple of times now, and he is always gracious and supportive. Most recently I chatted with Eddie at a taping of THAT METAL SHOW with guests Jani Lane, Michael Sweet, Taime Down, and Tony Iommi. Eddie Trunk is a fan of hard rock and heavy metal first and foremost - he lives and breaths it, and is always eager to talk shop with his rock and metal compadres.

Within the pages of Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, Eddie is sharing his life, his stories and all his backstage antics with us. If you are a true fan of hard rock and heavy metal you must own this book!

Metal fans know that Eddie was a long-time friend and fan of Ronnie James Dio. I share Eddie's love for the man, THE voice of metal and one of the great vocalists of all time. There will never be another DIO in my lifetime, and Ronnie is missed beyond measure. Listening to DIO's music as I wrote this review was inspiring to say the least. DIO's music and magic live on!

I would like to personally thank Eddie for this book, and for keeping metal music alive!
