Windsor/Detroit’s 89x radio presented Michigan-based metalcore band We Came As Romans to the sold out Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, MI on Sunday night. They are currently out on ‘the Road to the Bands Vs. Food Tour’ along with Ohio natives Miss May I, fellow hometown rockers Wilson, and Chicago's Sworn In who got the mosh pit brewing from song one.
Detroit's own Wilson was up next and turned the energy inside the Crofoot up a notch. The bands passion for their craft is evident as they formed an immediate connection with the fans from the moment they hit the stage. Fists were pumping to their anthem “Right to Rise” and mobile phones were held high when Chad Nicefield leapt into the crowd during the set closer “Snake Eyes”.
Primary support for the show came from Miss May I whose lead vocalist Levi Benton's growls and screams kept the crowd riled up with notable songs such as “Deathless” and “Turn Back the Time”. The fans responded physically with their bodies bouncing (sometimes even off one another if you were in the pit) as the band provided the aggressive beats on stage. Even 89x morning radio DJ, and event host, Cal Cagno, found himself in the mix stating he “lost his mosh pit virginity” and thanked a guy for not leveling him while doing so.
The lights cut out again and the Crofoot cheers were deafening. We Came As Romans are a constant storm of energy as members David Stephens, Kyle Pavone, Andy Glass, Brian “Lou” Cotton and Joshua Moore jump on & off the risers, feeding off of the energy of the crowd. WCAR played a perfect mix of songs from each of their four albums, (see full setlist below), including their latest, We Came As Romans, which was released last year. The band closed with "Hope" which is a personal favorite and evoked the loudest cheers of the night. The venue security definitely had their hands full as the crowd surfers floated across the masses and over the barricade.
If you unable to catch this particular lineup, be sure to catch any one of these bands next time they come through your area!
